Noah, an Ark Full of Animals, and a Promise at the End

Noah is a favorite. It has animals, rain, a big wooden boat, and a rainbow. Our children lean in for this one every single year.

Our teachers read it across the week, a piece at a time, then recapped the whole thing together on Thursday. By then our children were finishing sentences for us.

The story carries more than animals. Noah did a hard thing that made no sense to the people watching him, and he kept going anyway. A three year old will not put it in those words. What a three year old takes home is simpler. God asked. Noah listened. God kept his promise.

The counting is a bonus. Two of every animal is a math lesson dressed up as a story. Our children pair the animals, name them, and make the sounds. That is early math and early language in the same ten minutes.

By Thursday the rainbow is what they want to talk about. Colors in order. A promise you can see from the ground. Crafts and coloring pages gave them plenty of room for it.

Our children will be watching the sky for rainbows all fall now. Let them.
